TOPIC: Paul Misses Mark
READ: 2 Timothy 4:9-15 (NKJV)
9 Be diligent to come to me quickly;
10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica — Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.
11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.
12 And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
13 Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come — and the books, especially the parchments.
14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works.
15 You also must beware of him, for he has greatly resisted our words.
THE MESSAGE:
Today we celebrate the life and ministry of St. Mark the evangelist. Mark is believed to have been a close companion of Apostle Peter and the author of the Gospel of Mark. He is also a founder of the Church in Alexandria, Egypt. As a young believer he abandoned Paul and his evangelistic team in Pamphylia and returned to Jerusalem (Acts 13:13). This angered Paul and decided he was not needed anymore (Acts 15:36-39). However, he repented and returned to Antioch and grew to be a great disciple of Jesus.
Some persons do not value what they have until they lose it. A time came in the life of Apostle Paul that only Luke remained with him. He had to request Timothy to bring John Mark who had now become useful to him. Mark however have improved himself so much that while ministering with Barnabas in Cyprus; he became more useful to Paul. Does someone miss you when you are not around? How useful are you to the work of God? Does your pastor long for your return when you travel out of town? First, you need to improve your spiritual life and you will be useful to God and the brethren.
PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to be relevant and useful in people’s lives, and in Your Kingdom, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
