READ: Genesis 1:26-31 (NKJV)

  1. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
  2. So God created man in His [own] image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
  3. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
  4. And God said, “See, I have given you every herb [that] yields seed which [is] on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
  5. “Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for food”; and it was so.
  6. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed [it was] very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

THE MESSAGE:

In today’s passage, we encounter a powerful message that highlights the profound truth of our divine origin and purpose. The passage begins by stating: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness” (verse 26). This remarkable verse invites us to reflect on the essential value and dignity of every human being. God, in His wisdom and love, decided to create us in His own image, with qualities that reflect His goodness, holiness, and creativity.

That we are created in the image of God reminds us of the worth and value of every single person. Regardless of age, race, or social status, every individual carries within them a reflection of God’s image. Knowing that we are made in God’s image should shape our understanding that we are intentionally designed by God for a unique purpose. We are called to treat one another with respect, love, and kindness. Our lives will gain meaning and significance when we align ourselves with God’s will, utilising our time, talents, and resources to bring glory to God and blessing to those around us, therefore fulfilling the purpose of our creation.

PRAYER: O God, remind me daily of the truth that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, Amen!
