TOPIC: Liars Will Go To Hell
READ: 2 Samuel 15:7-12 (NKJV)
- Now it came to pass after forty years that Absalom said to the king, “Please, let me go to Hebron and pay the vow which I made to the LORD.
- “For your servant took a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘If the LORD indeed brings me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.’ “
- And the king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron.
- Then Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom reigns in Hebron!’ “
- And with Absalom went two hundred men invited from Jerusalem, and they went along innocently and did not know anything.
- Then Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city — from Giloh — while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people with Absalom continually increased in number.
THE MESSAGE:
Liars are deceivers and dangerous people; they say something with their tongues but their hearts mean another. Absalom was an example of hypocrisy and falsehood. He told David that he would go to Hebron and pay the vow he had made to God if the Lord brought him back to Jerusalem. This was a deliberate lie. Again, even if he had made the vow, he had broken it, for no man can serve and worship the Lord by destroying His work and dividing His people. In his hypocrisy, Absalom went into an adventure that took his life. He went to Hebron and sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel who on hearing the sound of the trumpet would say, “Absalom is king at Hebron!” 200 people from Jerusalem went with Absalom, having been seduced and deceived – they did not know of his plot against David.
Satan is the father of lies and whoever lives by falsehood is of the devil. Jesus is the Truth, and when we know Him, He sets us free. Business lies destroyed Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11). Lies are cankerworms and little foxes that spoil the vine. In fact, all liars will be in the lake that burns with fire and Sulphur, which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).
PRAYER: Father, please help me to boldly declare the truth in all situations, Amen!
