TOPIC – It Pays To Fear God
READ: Proverbs 28:10-20
- Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good.
- The rich man [is] wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding searches him out.
- When the righteous rejoice, [there is] great glory; But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves.
- He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes [them] will have mercy.
- Happy [is] the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
- [Like] a roaring lion and a charging bear [Is] a wicked ruler over poor people.
- A ruler who lacks understanding [is] a great oppressor, [But] he who hates covetousness will prolong [his] days.
- A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help him.
- Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, But [he who is] perverse [in his] ways will suddenly fall.
- He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!
- A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
MESSAGE:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and to fear God is to recognize sin for what it is and to want to be on the right side of God’s judgment.
The one who fears God lives with the mindfulness of his absolute holiness and hatred of sin. They also honor God with their lives, recognizing that they will stand before him to be judged based on their faithfulness as believers (2 Cor. 5:10). Thus, they do not lead God’s children astray (v.10), do not boast in their wealth (v.11), praise righteous deeds, are just and fair, and administer justice to all when in leadership (Vv.12,15). They quickly confess and forsake their sins (v.13). The man who fears the Lord will be honored in due time by the Lord, if not in this life, then in eternity. Those who fear the Lord sow seeds of life and will have a glorious harvest with abundant spiritual fruit and rewards.
They will have access to every spiritual blessing and eternal riches in Christ. Does your life show that you fear God? Remember, the fear of God begins with accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Those who harden their hearts and reject Christ will find disaster and eternal catastrophe as they are judged on the last day. Their eternity will be misery in hell. Therefore, fear the Lord and walk in his ways while you have the opportunity.
PRAYER:
Lord, may I truly fear You. Amen!
