BIBLE READING: Genesis 39:7-12
7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
MESSAGE:
In today’s Bible reading, the wife of Joseph’s boss became sexually attracted to him and wanted to have an affair with him. He had been put in charge of everything in Potiphar’s house, but he understood his boundaries. Therefore, when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, he took to his heels.
I usually tell people that when it comes to the matter of temptations, especially where the opposite sex is involved, you do not start praying or speaking in tongues; rather, you should flee first and pray later.
The devil will use subtle means to tempt you with things that will appeal to you, but as God’s child, you must resist him so that your destiny will be preserved. My dear child, avoid friends who will invite you to go clubbing or engage in other sinful acts such as downloading and watching immoral movies on your phone. You must also resist the urge to click on pop-ups while using the internet because they sometimes lead to betting or pornographic sites.
Finally, get productive books that will stimulate your mind towards excellence and surround yourself with godly friends who will inspire you towards doing things that please God. I pray that as you steer clear of temptations through the steps above, God will make you overcome.
