BIBLE READING: Lamentations 3:21-26

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

MESSAGE:

I am the last male child of my father, and all my older siblings weren’t educated because we were poor. However, I insisted that I would go to school. When my father told me to ‘wake up’ to my reality, I told him that I would rather go hungry. I refused to give up on my dreams, and I did not eat for three days in protest against my father. Fearing that I would die of starvation, my mother prevailed on my father to sell his most prized possession ‘a goat’ to pay my fees. Today, by God’s grace, I hold a PhD in Mathematics and have received eight honorary doctorate degrees from various international institutions.

My dear child, there will be moments when you will feel like giving up on your dreams, faith, or even yourself. Perhaps you’ve but prayed and waited for a breakthrough, nothing seems to be happening: please don’t lose heart. Just because you don’t see immediate results doesn’t mean that God is not working in the background. Remember, no night lasts forever. The same God who created the sunrise has promised that joy is on the way. Soon, His light will break through your situation. I pray that the Almighty God will grant you the patience to wait on Him, in Jesus’ name.

Quiz: Why is it important not to give up. even when things are hard?

KEY POINT:
Never give up: God is still at work in you.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Luke 1:57-80; Joshua 1-3

HYMN 10: I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY

  1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
    New heights I’m gaining every day;
    Still praying as I onward bound,
    Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

Refrain:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table land;
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

  1. My heart has no desire to stay
    Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
    Tho’ some may dwell where these abound,
    My pray’r, my aim is higher ground.
  2. I want to live above the world,
    Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
    For faith has caught the joyful sound,
    The song of saints on higher ground.
  3. I want to scale the utmost height,
    And catch a gleam of glory bright;
    But still I’ll pray till Heav’n I’ve found,
    Lord, lead me on to higher ground.
