B. The Teacher should ask the class to discuss how to approach the possibility of building romantic connections online (Those who have experience with this can share to help others learn).
C. The teacher should use the following points to guide the discussion
Here is how you can approach this possibility:
i. Shared Interests and Goals: Online platform. 15 connect people based on shared values, fostering meaningful conversations and compatibility. Oneness in purpose is vital for a thriving relationship (Amos 3:3).
ii. Gradually Build Trust: Trust is essential for any relationship. Take time to understand each other’s character and intentions, avoiding rushed commitments or (1 Corinthians 13:4). emotional decisions
iii. Practice Openness with Discernment: Stay open to possibilities while seeking God’s wisdom to see beyond appearances. Verify claims and maintain honesty (James 1:5).
iv. Seek Trusted Counsel: Involve mentors and trusted counsellors who can provide insight to ensure the relationship agrees with your values and God’s plan (Proverbs 20:18).
v. Prioritise God’s Guidance: Pray for direction and build the relationship on God’s principles for lasting fulfilment (Proverbs 3:5-6).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The lesson is engaging already. So, no need for class activity.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE DANGERS
The discussion on the dangers of engaging in romantic relationships through social media should be centred on the points below.
Engaging in romantic relationships through social media can indeed come with significant risks that require careful thought and caution:
- Emotional Entanglement: Online relationships can create strong emotional attachments based on limited or incomplete knowledge, leading unhealthy dependencies or emotional struggles (Proverbs 4:23). Without the full context of a person’s life, you might find yourself emotionally invested in a relationship that is not as stable as it appears.
- False Intimacy: Social media can create a false sense of closeness, making it easy to mistake online interactions for real-world connections. True intimacy requires time, face-to-face interaction, and understanding, which social media cannot fully provide (1 Corinthians 15:33; 1 Thessalonians 5:21).
- Lack of Accountability: Private online relationships may not have the same level of accountability as real-world relationships. Without the involvement of trusted friends or family, it can be easy for hidden motives or harmful behaviour to go unnoticed (Proverbs 15:22).
- Security Risks: Sharing personal information online exposes you to risks such as identity theft, stalking or exploitation. You have little control over who sees or uses the details you share, which can lead to serious consequences (Proverbs 22:3).
- Deception: People often present a false version of themselves online, hiding their true nature or intentions. This can lead to feelings of betrayal or harm when the truth eventually comes out (Jeremiah 17:9; 1 John 4:1a).
Given these potential dangers, it is important to approach online romantic relationships with caution, being mindful of the emotional, psychological and physical risks involved. Balancing online interactions with real-life connections, accountability, and careful discernment can help protect you from these dangers.
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The opportunity for discussion given above has taken care of the class activity
CONCLUSION: When God is at the centre of your decisions, you can trust Him to lead you into relationships that agree with His purpose and bring you lasting joy.
EVALUATION: Teachers should ask the students to explain how to approach the opportunity of engaging in a romantic relationship through social media.
CLOSING PRAYER: Dear Father, wisdom is profitable to direct. Please give me wisdom in Jesus’ name.
ASSIGNMENT: Write out five (5) Scriptures that suggest God’s instruction on a relationship (2×5=10 Marks).
SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
