Seeds Of Destiny For Today 2026 MESSAGE
One of the dangers in the Christian walk is becoming overconfident in your spiritual strength that you stop being careful. If you have fallen before, you could fall again if you are not careful. If you were on the mud before, you could enter again if you become overconfident and careless.
For example, a drunkard who has repented should not say, “Let us go to the beer parlour for the meeting; I am already saved. In fact, I am so filled with the Holy Ghost, that I can sit there and not drink.” No! That is not wisdom. It is better and safer to meet somewhere else.
The question then is, how can a believer avoid overconfidence and the dangers associated with it?
- Never trust your strength more than your safeguards
One of the dangers of overconfidence is believing that because one is spiritually strong today, one cannot fall into temptation tomorrow. Spiritual strength does not make a person immune to temptation; it makes it necessary to remain watchful.
Many years ago, a young lady who had repented from immoral lifestyle preached to a former boyfriend. The man, after listening to her preaching said, “What you are saying is very interesting. Please come and tell me more.” So, he invited her to the hotel where he was lodging so she could tell him more. Of course, I don’t need to finish the story. You already know the outcome. He was the one who eventually “preached” to her, though negatively at the end.
Never be overconfident because you are on fire and think no one can pull you down. As a man, do not say, “I can sleep in one room with a girl, and nothing will happen.” Be careful!
A young man who was once known for praying in the midnight and speaking in tongues decided to assist a sister with accommodation by allowing her to squat with him in his apartment until she got accommodation. The first night, his voice was still heard in the neighbourhood, speaking in tongues. On the second night, his voice was still loud in tongues. But on the third night, the volume began to reduce. And on the fourth and fifth nights, no more volume. His spiritual life lost fire, and the end was very pathetic. Never be overconfident. No overconfident pilot has ever survived.
- Watch and pray
Standing firm in the faith requires continual watchfulness and prayer because there are forces working to make sure you do not stand. Daniel’s enemies sought an occasion against him but could find none because he was faithful (Daniel 6:4-5). Samson could not be killed until he was made to sin. There are people who may want to engage you in bitterness and send you to hell, not because you killed, but because you became bitter.
There are also those who are organising to ensure that you are off your feet. The devil may bring someone into your life to harass you and make you fall because of what God wants to do through your life. There are people whose ministry and assignment on earth is to offend and provoke you.
Beloved, please, let us not go through Church and end up in hellfire. It is better not to have gone to Church than to be known in Church and then be known in hell. Never! Watch and pray. Refuse overconfidence, guard your spiritual life and do not allow anyone to engage you in bitterness. Stay on your guard because as you are trying to stand there are forces watching to make sure you fall.
REMEMBER THIS: Never trust your spiritual strength so much that you become careless about temptation.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
- Avoid every environment that can expose you to your former weaknesses.
- Watch and pray continually against every temptation and spiritual attack.
- Refuse to respond to provocation with bitterness; guard your heart and remain standing in love and faith.
PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your Word to me today. Deliver me from spiritual overconfidence. Give me grace to watch, pray and remain standing, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
