COURT

A 33-year-old businessman, and a 29-year-old musician were on Friday remanded in prison custody by the FCT Area Court Lugbe, for engaging in homosexual acts.

The accused persons, Edwin Kelechi of Sauka Village and Khulid Ibrahim of Galadimawa Village Airport Road Abuja, are standing trial on a two-count charge of joint act and unnatural offense.

The prosecutor, Anigbo Paul told the court that the accused persons were arrested by the police on Jan. 21.
He said that Kelechi went to Ibrahim’s house at Galadimawa and had “carnal knowledge” of him, with a promise to pay him N2,000 after the act.

Paul said that Kelechi however did not keep to the agreement to pay Ibrahim N2,000, rather he paid him N1,000 which infuriated him and led to a fight.

He said the duo were arrested by the police while fighting on the street.

The prosecutor said that the offense contravened sections 79 and 284 of the Penal Code.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor prayed the court to try the accused persons summarily since they admitted committing the crime.

The accused persons in tears, begged the court to tamper justice with mercy.

“We are sorry for what we did, it was the devil that lured us into this act. We will not do it again,’’ they both pleaded.

In his ruling, the Senior Judge, Gambo Garba, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till Feb. 4, for sentencing. [NAN]
