Memorise: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” – Romans 6:16

Read: Romans 6:11-18

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 119:49-104, 1 Corinthians 4

MESSAGE:

Today, many people are addicted to a lot of things like drugs, music, alcohol, television, jewellery, gossiping, video games, gambling, fornication, the internet and so on. Whatever you are addicted to determines where your time and resources go. The problem with these addictions is that they drown their victims without the fellow even realising it. I pray for you, if there is any addiction in your life, God will open your eyes to see it and you will overcome it in Jesus’ name.

Complete victory over addiction comes through Jesus Christ alone. First, you must recognise you have an addiction and be willing to break free from it. Next, you need to give up your life to Christ and then call on Jesus to help you against that addiction. To get permanent victory, the word of God must be tour best friend; read your Bible at least three times a day. The more of God’s word you read, the more you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the Holy Spirit will begin to displace that addiction. When you are free be determined to avoid that addiction or its triggers because when an addiction returns, it comes back seven times worse than before (Matthew 12:43-45).

Key Point:

It is better not to be addicted at all than to be looking for a way out of an addiction.

Hymn 6:

  1. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
    And our eternal home:
  2. Under the shadow of your throne
    Your saints have dwelt secure;
    Sufficient is your arm alone,
    And our defense is sure
  3. Before the hills in order stood
    Or earth received its frame,
    From everlasting you are God,
    To endless years the same.
  4. A thousand ages in your sight
    Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
    Before the rising sun.
  5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
    Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
    Does at the opening day.
  6. Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
    And our eternal home!
