LAGOS, Nigeria, January 2016 – Ford is set to redefine the sub-B compact car segment with the launch of the all-new Ford Figo.

Offering trend-setting technologies, smart design and outstanding levels of space and comfort, the all-new Figo Hatch and Sedan raise the bar in the compact car class while retaining this popular model’s established reputation for exceptional value and efficiency.

“The all-new Ford Figo is an exciting new compact car that will delight customers with its great design, smart technology, advanced safety features, world-class quality and powerful yet efficient engines,” says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region.

“All-new Figo demonstrates that a compact car doesn’t mean sacrificing quality, design or features, and offers a lot more in each of these areas than consumers would ever expect for the money,” Delate adds.

Elegant and efficient design

The all-new Ford Figo is characterised by a striking, elegant design that sets it apart from competitors. The eye-catching styling is derived from Ford’s Kinetic 2.0 design language, as seen on the likes of the new Ford Fusion and Focus.

The upmarket look starts off with the distinctive trapezoidal grille, complemented by a raked bonnet and attractive elongated headlamps. The swept-back lines of the windshield and A-pillars impart the all-new Figo with a distinctly dynamic appearance and are the result of more than 100 hours of wind-tunnel testing and extensive digital modelling to enhance aerodynamic performance. A further benefit is better fuel efficiency and reduced wind noise.

Sweeping, curved lines flowing from the front to the rear create a sense of movement, while the five-door hatch incorporates a rising roofline with a sporty spoiler and neat tailgate accentuated by two distinct crease lines.

The sedan uses sharp, clean edges for the deck lid and tail lights to slip smoothly through the air and assist with reducing turbulence behind the car, thereby lowering drag.

A speed lip under the front of the car further enhances aerodynamic performance by deflecting air away from the underbody where components can create significant drag. The side mirrors are also optimized to minimize drag and reduce wind noise.

The aerodynamic design even helps to keep occupants cool, as airflow through the grille is directed to heat exchangers to improve air conditioning performance.

Chrome highlights and fine details in the headlight design add an unmistakably premium touch for discerning car buyers.

Intelligent interior

The sophisticated and stylish exterior of the all-new Figo is matched by a modern interior that delivers an extraordinary experience for a compact car. Intelligent and careful space management creates a surprisingly roomy cabin emphasizing quality, comfort and convenience.

High levels of craftsmanship are evident throughout the cabin, with colours and materials carefully selected by Ford designers to create a refined and premium environment. In the front, class-leading legroom gives the front passenger space to stretch out, while enabling even taller drivers to achieve the ideal driving position.

Rear-seat passengers will appreciate the all-new Figo’s exceptional roominess that allows three adults to sit side-by-side with plenty of head and shoulder room.

Thanks to a powerful air-conditioning system (with automatic climate control on the Titanium), occupants can enjoy the interior space in even greater comfort due to the high-efficiency compressor and condenser. This unit was developed specifically for hot climates, and is able to cool the cabin quickly and effectively.

The all-new Figo boasts no less than 20 smart storage spaces and convenience features strategically located around the cabin. This includes bottle holders in both front doors that can hold a 1.5-litre and a 1.0-litre bottle at the same time, a large glove box that is big enough to fit a laptop, three cup holders for front seat occupants and a convenient bin for rear passengers at the back of the centre console.

There is a handy tray with a rubber mat in the front console, which is ideal for holding a cellphone, sunglasses or other loose items.

For storing valuables a secret side compartment is provided, and is only accessible when the driver’s door is open.

Up to 359 litres of luggage space is available in the boot of the all-new Figo Sedan, with fold-down rear seats increasing loading capacity and versatility. The seat-backs of the Hatch Trend and Titanium boast a 60/40 split for greater flexibility.

Sophisticated and smart technology

Reflecting the growing need for consumers to stay connected at all times, the all-new Figo features exceptional smart technologies that help customers integrate their car more easily into their digital lives.

MyFord Dock offers drivers a unique solution for storing, mounting and charging mobile phones, MP3 players and satellite navigation systems, and for integrating these devices into the car’s entertainment system (Ambiente and Trend spec vehicles only). When not in use, the dock can be closed out of sight.

Consumers seeking even greater technological integration will benefit from the fitment of SYNC®, Ford’s advanced in-car connectivity system, as standard equipment on the all-new Figo Titanium.
“SYNC® lets drivers interact with their mobile devices and entertainment system with voice commands while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road,” Delate says. “Through innovations like SYNC® and the MyFord Dock, Ford is bringing advanced connectivity technologies to more consumers, helping them to stay connected.”

On the Ambiente and Trend models, a standard four-speaker audio system is provided that includes a radio/CD unit with MP3-compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as USB and Aux inputs. The Titanium further gains remote audio controls on the steering wheel.

To encourage responsible driving, the all-new Figo Titanium features Ford’s MyKey technology. MyKey lets owners program keys with restricted driving modes that encourage good habits, such as increasing seat belt use, limiting vehicle top speeds and regulating audio volume.

“With MyKey, Figo owners can set sensible restrictions for drivers with less experience,” Delate states. “For instance, they can activate a maximum speed limit, or a persistent seatbelt minder that mutes the audio system volume and continues to play a chime until front-seat occupants fasten their seatbelts.”

The all-new Figo offers peace of mind even when away from the car thanks to a perimeter alarm. If it detects an unauthorized attempt to enter the car, the car triggers an alarm, flashes the headlamps and parking lamps, and activates a theft indicator on the instrument panel.

Safe and in command

Designed from the ground up to protect occupants in the event of a collision, the all-new Figo features a robust passenger cage created from high-strength steel, bolstered by standard driver and passenger airbags across the range.

The all-new Figo Titanium features an impressive six airbags – including side and curtain airbags – for an outstanding level of protection.

All models are equipped with ABS brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as standard, while the all-new Figo Titanium Automatic incorporates Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Launch Assist that holds the vehicle for up to three seconds as the driver’s foot moves from the brake to the accelerator.

Fun-to-drive spirit

True to Ford’s commitment to delivering a fun-to-drive experience, the all-new Figo has been designed and engineered to offer precise, agile and responsive steering, and stable, predictable handling.

This performance is made possible by the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), which provides lighter steering effort at low speeds – for parking and in-city manoeuvring – and heavier, more precise feel at high speeds for greater stability and confidence on highways.

By replacing the belt-driven hydraulic pump of a traditional power steering system with an electric motor, EPAS makes for a quieter vehicle with fewer components drawing engine power – thus helping improve fuel economy.

All-new Figo is available with three responsive, reliable and economical engines, including 1.2 and 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, as well as a 1.5 diesel. The 1.2 delivers 88PS of power and 112Nm of torque, while the larger-capacity 1.5 generates 100PS and 136Nm matched to a combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.9 l/100km*.

The diesel models are powered by a 1.5-litre Duratorq TDCi engine that develops 100PS allied to an outstanding 215Nm. Tuned to provide peak torque at just 1750 r/min, this engine is designed for responsive performance matched to frugal consumption – as confirmed by the average fuel consumption rating of 4.9 l/100km*.

The manual derivatives feature a five-speed gearbox, while Ford’s advanced six-speed Powershift transmission is available on the 1.5 Petrol, in both hatchback and sedan guises. The PowerShift dual-clutch system combines the performance and efficiency of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic.

Excellent features, outstanding value

All-new Figo can be specified in three trim and equipment levels, starting off with the affordable Ambiente line-up that includes both body styles and engine choices*.

Despite its entry-level status, the Ambiente features body-coloured bumpers and rear fog lamps as standard, matched to tinted windows. Manual air-conditioning is provided, along with the MyFord Dock and Bluetooth-enabled four-speaker audio system with USB and Aux inputs.

On the safety front the all-new Figo is fitted with driver and passenger airbags, plus ABS with EBD. Key-operated central locking and a perimeter anti-theft alarm system offer additional peace of mind.
The all-new Figo Trend takes the features set up a notch further, incorporating colour-coded door handles, optional 14-inch alloy wheels in place of steel rims, front fog lamps plus electrically-adjustable exterior mirrors.

Power front and rear windows with one-touch function for the driver and child locks for the rear windows adds further convenience, combined with a drive-away locking function and comprehensive dashboard instrumentation that includes a rev counter and gearshift indicator. On the Hatch model the seat-back boasts a 60/40 split for added versatility.

The all-new Figo Titanium receives an extra dose of exclusivity, and is distinguished by eye-catching chromed headlamp bezels, electronic climate control and SYNC® with Bluetooth and Voice Activation.

A total of six airbags are fitted, comprising driver and front passenger, as well as side and curtain airbags. ESP with Hill Launch Assist is exclusive to the Titanium PowerShift models.

The driver’s seat benefits from four-way adjustment for improved comfort. Remote-operated central locking is standard, linked to the MyKey functionality.
