TOPIC: Unity Of Believers
READ: John 17:20-26 King James Version (KJV)
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.
26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
THE MESSAGE:
You are welcome to the ember months. May the Lord give you great blessings in this season in Jesus Name.
John 17 is a lengthy prayer made by Jesus for His disciples and those who would believe in Him through their word. He prayed for unity among believers and their unity with Him. He prayed that believers may be one as He and the Father is one. The Trinity is fully in union with each other; no division exists. They do not struggle for supremacy or relevance. When God created man, He said, let us (the Trinity) make man in our own image. When Jesus was baptised at the River Jordan, the Trinity was together to support His Ministry (Matthew 3:16-17).
The Church can only have unity when we allow Christ-like humility (Philippians 2:5) to be our watchword and when we engage in healthy Christian activities like the Apostles in Acts 2:42 and 4:22. The greatest problem facing the Church of today is disunity. Satan has capitalised on this to put the Church in disarray.
We are faced with struggle for power and supremacy both within a denomination/Christian organization and amongst children of God. This has made us abandon the Kingdom business of winning souls for God. Even some Christian organizations that are meant to unite the Church, sometimes do not help matters. Are you involved in causing disunity in the Church? The Holy Spirit is calling you today to retrace your steps. Jesus will come for a united Church and not for one in confusion.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, may we be one even as You and Your Father are one.
