TOPIC: Be Like Christ

READ: Philippians 2:5-11 King James Version (KJV)

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth,

11 and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

THE MESSAGE:

The two natures of Christ are portrayed in this passage: (i) His divine nature illustrated thus: (i) Who being in the form of God (verse 6), (b) the eternal and only begotten Son of God (John1:1, Colossians 1:1), (c) He thought it no robbery to be equal with God; did not think Himself guilty of any invasion of what did not belong to Him, or assuming another’s right (verse 6), (d) I and my Father are one (John 10:30). It is the highest degree of robbery for any mere man to pretend to be equal with God, or profess himself one with the Father.

(ii) His human nature: the Lord Jesus Christ could have come as a prince, and appeared in splendour but He took upon Him the likeness and fashion of a man and the form of a servant, that is, a man of mean estate (Hebrews 2:17). The lowest step of His humiliation was His dying the death of the cross; He was actually and voluntarily obedient. His exaltation was the reward of His humiliation. Therefore, God highly exalted Him, that is, raised Him to an exceeding height in honour; so He had a name above every name, a title of dignity above all the creatures, men and angels. And in power: Every knee must bow to Him, the whole creation must be in subjection to Him. The name of Jesus is greater than any other name, full of power and might. When we humble ourselves like Christ, God must lift us up. Try it today.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please teach me humility so that I will be honoured and exalted.

Suggested Song:
At the name of Jesus, Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess Him King of glory now
Tis the Fathers pleasure we should call Him Lord
Who from the beginning was the mighty Lord
