TOPIC: Be Holy, For I Am Holy

READ: 1 Peter 1:10-16 (NKJV)

10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace [that would come] to you,

11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things which angels desire to look into.

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest [your] hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, [as] in your ignorance;

15 but as He who called you [is] holy, you also be holy in all [your] conduct,

16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

THE MESSAGE:

In the last few days, we have discussed the resurrection of Christ from the dead and its implications to the believer. For us to benefit fully from it and experience its power here on earth, we MUST BE HOLY. God is holy and has commanded us to be holy. It means being separated from impurity and set apart for God and His use. Though not much is being preached about it these days, its importance to the Church cannot be overemphasised. For without holiness, no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14).

In verses 10-12, the prophets of the Old Testament spoke about the salvation that would come through Christ and the glory that would follow His suffering. They did not only speak about them but also searched and longed for their own time of manifestation. However, the prophecy was not for them. We are therefore privileged to have it in our own time with its full rights and benefits. These full rights and benefits are conditional however. Any intending partaker must put away the old life of lust and immorality, become an obedient child of God and maintain a steady life of Holiness. Are you ready to do so? Remember that no man shall see God without peace and holiness.

PRAYER: Lord, cause me to be sensitive of holy living every time!
