TOPIC: Reasonable Wealth

READ: 1 Timothy 6: 17-21 (NKJV)

17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

20 O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge

21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

The Bible does not condemn riches. In Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 18, God stated that He is the one that gives power to get wealth. He helped Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Solomon to become wealthy. What the Bible condemns is the love for money or making idol out of the wealth or turning the riches to a god. Anything you love more than the creator is an idol.

In our text today, Paul told Timothy to warn those who want to be rich in this present age not to be neither haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy (verse 17). He also prescribed some duties for them to perform as doing good works, ready to give and willing to share (verse 18). The ultimate is storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come. These warnings and prescription are also for you to follow.

PRAYER: Lord, uproot anything that has replaced You in my life in Jesus’ Name. Amen
