TOPIC: Overcoming The Devil, How?

READ:

10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places.]

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

THE MESSAGE:

Our passage informs us that we are in a serious battle against powerful but invisible enemies. These include “principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this age and spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Certainly, we cannot see or identify them physically, therefore, only Him who overcame them through His death on the cross can decisively crush them for us (See John 10:27-29; 1 John 5:18). Nevertheless, He expects us to be involved in this battle. Therefore, He provided for us every battle instrument for the engagement. These include:

1. Being strong in the Lord and depending solely on His power and might.

2. To put on the whole amour of God- (a) The truth: standing on truth always, in all situations and circumstances (b) Putting on the breastplate of righteousness (salvation) in Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30); (c) Always confessing Jesus to the world as the way of our salvation (preaching). (d) Stand in faith always, to be able to stand and ward off the fiery darts of the enemy. (e) Have the sword of the Spirit (God’s word) fill our spirit (Psalm 119:9,11). (f) Prayer –always praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). (g) Put on the helmet of salvation. Are you saved by being born again? (John 3:3, 6).

PRAYER: Not by might, not by power, oh Lord can I be saved. So Lord, take hold of me to overcome in Jesus name Amen.
