TOPIC: Sing To The Lord O You Saints!

READ: PSALM 30:1-12 (NKJV)

  1. A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me.
  2. O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me.
  3. O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
  4. Sing praise to the LORD, You saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
  5. For His anger [is but for] a moment, His favor [is for] life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy [comes] in the morning.
  6. Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.”
  7. LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, [and] I was troubled.
  8. I cried out to You, O LORD; And to the LORD I made supplication:
  9. “What profit [is there] in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth?
  10. Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!”
  11. You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
  12. To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

THE MESSAGE:

Some years ago, my family passed through a strange sickness defying medical prescription and huge debts due to theft, to the point that my yearly salary could not settle. The car broke down severally and there were police cases, etc. What was there to thank God for, I wondered, when we had fasted for two months, served God and supported His work faithfully in tithes, huge donations and services?Contrary to my thoughts, a popular song still says count your blessings; name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!

The Psalmist commands us to sing and give thanks to the Lord with our hearts. This is because His name is holy, hallowed, glorious, powerful, fearful, wonderful, creative, transforming above all the mountains and valleys of life. Thank God for lifting us above the expectations of our enemies (verse 1), for healing (verse 2), for life and salvation amidst threatening and dreadful situations (verse 3), for His great forgiveness and mercies in spite of our wrong doings (verse 5), for His immeasurable favour (verse 5), for joy received after seasons of weeping (verse 5), for establishing us (verse 7), for answered prayers (verses 8-10), for gladness after seasons of trials (verse 11). Beloved, you must find a reason to sing and thank God even for the remembrance of His name. Hence, use your tongue, heart and all within you to sing His praises (verse 12).

PRAYER: Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the works Thy hands have made……Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee, how great Thou art!
