TOPIC: God’s Repentance: Remedy For Eternal Death

Read: Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (NKJV)

  1. ” If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and [who,] when they have chastened him, will not heed them,
  2. “then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city.
  3. “And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’
  4. “Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

THE MESSAGE:

Sin doubles itself and multiplies faster when repentance is taken lightly. The law against a rebellious son who becomes unmanageable for his parents exposes us to the kind of patience God exercises when we persist in sin. It further exposes sinners to the impending harsh judgment. Charges would be raised against sinners. Rebellion, disobedience, gluttony and drunkenness as recorded in the passage were listed against such a son after which he was liable to be stoned to death.

We all belong to the family of God. He created us and guides to the rightful path, yet we keep straying away in sin. God corrects, admonishes, chastises where necessary and calls to repentance. However, many choose to ignore God’s benevolence. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to just to forgive us our sins… ” (John 1:9). For this purpose Jesus Christ came to release those who were doomed for death” (Psalm 102:20). It would be unfortunate for anyone of the household of God to be released for destruction in hell just as the parents in our passage released their son for destruction because of perpetual disobedience. Repent today and be saved.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Many things may come to mind today, but always remember;: “…the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).
