TOPIC: Be A Worthy Ambassador Of Christ (Anglican Devotional 15 July 2021)
READ: Philippians 1:27-30 (NKJV)
- Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
- and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.
- For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
- having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear [is] in me.
THE MESSAGE:
Paul encouraged the Philippians to let their manner of life conform to the Gospel of Christ. He strongly charged them to strive for the faith even in the face of persecution and suffering that might come their way. Today’s passage enjoins us to let our manner of life portray the Gospel of Christ both in the open and even when nobody sees us, irrespective of what we are passing through (verse 27). This is because each Christian is a mirror that reveals the beauty of Christ to the world.
The way we live each day sows the seed of the Gospel of Christ in us and those around us. Our lifestyles and choices could either draw people around us closer to the glorious life in Christ or make the Christian faith detestable to them. Some unbelievers and young Christians have been thrown into serious spiritual confusion and doubts because of what they see in the lives of the so called Christians around them. Are you a good representative of Christ to the world around you or a betrayer of Christ by your conduct, especially outside of the Church premises? How do you handle your daily business life, whether at home or other places (2 Timothy 3:5)? Remember that you are to represent Jesus Christ not only when you go to Church on Sunday but also every other day of the week and everywhere you go. Determine to be a true ambassador of Christ and it shall be well with you.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to live as a worthy ambassador of Christ to the world around me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
