TOPIC: The God Of Impossible Things

READ: Luke 1:34-38 (NKJV)

  1. Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
  2. And the angel answered and said to her, “[The] Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
  3. “Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.
  4. “For with God nothing will be impossible.”
  5. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

THE MESSAGE:

There are several seemingly impossible stories in the Bible. We have the stories of a flood that covered the earth, a sea divided so people can walk through, the sun that keeps shining until a battle is won, and a man who survives three days in the belly of a fish. Similarly, in today’s passage we read about the impossible story of God’s angel who tells Mary that she would conceive in her womb through the direct operation of the Holy Spirit, who would overshadow her, notwithstanding that she was a virgin who had never had a sexual relationship with a man. However, Mary received the message with faith (verse 38b).

Indeed, God is the Creator of all things and can alter what He has created. He can break into natural laws and cause the supernatural to happen. Like Mary, we need faith that opens up new dimensions, making us understand that what we see is not all there is, and that with God all things are possible. By faith, we learn to recognise and appreciate the impossible things God does for us each day such as forgiveness, healing, provision, etc. The more we see the impossible acts of God with the eyes of faith, the stronger our faith in Him will become.

PRAYER: Father, grant me the eyes of faith to see You as the God of impossible things, Amen.
