TOPIC: Beware Of False Teachers (Anglican Devotional 23 April 2021)

READ: Titus 1:10-16 (NKJV)

  1. For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
  2. whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.
  3. One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans [are] always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”
  4. This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
  5. not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.
  6. To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.
  7. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

THE MESSAGE:

A false teacher is someone who does not teach the correct doctrines of our faith. Many such teachers are known by their fruits such as being rebellious people, talking too much, deceiving people and forming their own groups where they will be in charge. The false teacher must be resisted and silenced. They ruin many lives in order to gain wealth or fame. It is worthy to note that their minds and consciences have been corrupted. These false teachers claim to know God but deny Him by their actions and are not fit for any good work.

False teachers abound in our society today; they are seen in Churches , fellowships, one-man owned ministries, colleges, universities, prayer houses, occult groups like Eckankar, Grail Message, Reformed Ogboni Fraternity, Jehovah Witnesses, etc. They carry out their false teachings through the radio, television, print and social media platforms like Emails, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. Paul warned that false teachers must be silenced which may not be easy in this age of global internet and ICT. However, Christians should oppose them whenever and wherever they exist and teach the true and sound doctrine of our faith. We must study the Bible well in order to succeed in this task.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to know, oppose and silence false teachers in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
