TOPIC: All History Wraps Up In Jesus
READ: Acts 13:22-25 (NKJV)
- “And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the [son] of Jesse, a man after My [own] heart, who will do all My will.’
- “From this man’s seed, according to [the] promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior — Jesus —
- “after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
- “And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not [He.] But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’
THE MESSAGE:
Paul’s sermon (from the beginning of this chapter) shows that history, particularly Israel’s history, is connected with God’s master plan which ultimately reveals Jesus as the Saviour.
His sermon emphasises God’s deliberate choice of Israel, the role of the Judges, King Saul, and the figure of King David in this divine narrative. Paul’s message also highlights that Jesus, as the offspring of David, represents the highest point of this plan, fulfilling God’s promise as the Saviour of Israel. One key personality in this history is John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ. Throughout his ministry, John consistently pointed people to Jesus Christ, declaring, ‘He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.’. According to Jesus Christ, John is the last of the OT prophets and the greatest man that lived prior to the coming of Jesus (Matthew 11:7-14).
Beloved, the true meaning of life emerges when we acknowledge a divine plan at our own time and when we can accurately locate ourselves in this divine plan. Without it, life tends to revolve around self-centred desires and interests. As we celebrate and remember St. John the Baptist today, let us keep Jesus at the centre of our lives. Like John, weave our lives around Jesus Christ because we can only derive purpose and clarity through Him.
PRAYER: Father, make my life a profound example that point others to You, Amen!
