  1. Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
  2. When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,
  3. and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
  4. Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
  5. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
  6. “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping [for] her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”

THE MESSAGE:

It is amazing how jealousy and ambition can push a ruler to undertake the mass slaughter of innocent children in order to guard his position. King Herod, having ruled for more than 35 years, appeared not to have remembered that an infant of not more than 2 years of age could not even be a threat to his kingship. Many leaders, in a desperate attempt to attain a position or secure it, resort to very wicked practices. Some of these demand blood sacrifices.

In an extreme case, two former African heads of state, having attained their positions by force of arms, were known to have elevated murder/human sacrifice to a state banquet, where they served human flesh to their guests.

Beloved, note that any obsession for anything is likely to be Satan-driven. It is evil. Beware!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, deliver us from every all-consuming passions in life, in Jesus’s name!
