TOPIC: Jesus Is The Christ

READ: MATTHEW 16:13-20 (NKJV)

  1. When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
  2. So they said, “Some [say] John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
  3. He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
  4. Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
  5. Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed [this] to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
  6. “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
  7. “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
  8. Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

THE MESSAGE:

As we commemorate the life of St. Peter today, our text reminds us of his confession of Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the Living God”(verse 16). The region of Caesarea Philippi was in their days, a centre of idolatry with massive stone images. Jesus’ question and Peter’s answer were to affirm the Deity of Jesus Christ. Upon revelational confession, Jesus promised to build His everlasting Church, affirming that the gates of hell would not prevail.

Beloved, in the midst of religious confusion of the world today, you need to identify who Jesus is. He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God; He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 10). He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation (Colossians 1:15-20). He is our Lord and Redeemer (John 3:16). Without knowing and experiencing Jesus, life is vain. Acknowledge Jesus Christ today in all your ways and He will be glorified.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour: Come into my heart today, Amen.
