TOPIC: Redeemed With The Precious Blood Of Christ

READ: 1 Peter 1:13-25 (NKJV)

  1. Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest [your] hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
  2. as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, [as] in your ignorance;
  3. but as He who called you [is] holy, you also be holy in all [your] conduct,
  4. because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
  5. And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay [here] in fear;
  6. knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, [like] silver or gold, from your aimless conduct [received] by tradition from your fathers,
  7. but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
  8. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
  9. who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
  10. Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
  11. having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
  12. because “All flesh [is] as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,
  13. But the word of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

THE MESSAGE:

Our text reminds us that we have been redeemed with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ (verses 18-19). As a result, there must be a clear departure from our former lifestyles.

This former lifestyle was lived in lust, ignorance and sin, following human traditions (verses 14, 18). This old lifestyle leads to condemnation and eternal death (Romans 6:23). In contrast, the new lifestyle is a life of obedience to God, holiness and love (verses 15, 22-23). This new lifestyle leads to many blessings here on earth, and ultimately eternal life (Deuteronomy 28:1-2; verse 9). Let us therefore turn fully to God without going back. Let all old things (sins, evil habits and the like) pass away, and let all become new (verse 13; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please help me to be holy, as You are holy.
