TOPIC: What Do You Think Of Christ?

READ: Matthew 22:34-46 (NKJV)

  1. But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
  2. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked [Him a question,] testing Him, and saying,
  3. “Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?”
  4. Jesus said to him, ” ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
  5. “This is [the] first and great commandment.
  6. “And [the] second [is] like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
  7. “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
  8. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
  9. saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “[The Son] of David.”
  10. He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
  11. ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ‘?
  12. “If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?”
  13. And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

THE MESSAGE:

Here we see Jesus asking the Pharisees the above question, and the answer to this question is critical to everybody as it is of eternal significance.

People have different ideas and knowledge of who Christ is. Some think of Him as a great teacher, some as a great prophet, and others as a mere human being who influenced the life of people. But what do you as a person think of Christ? The Pharisees said that the Christ is the Son of David according to His human descent However, David in the Spirit called Him Lord (Psalm 110:1),l. On account of His divine nature, He is David’s Son because He became man through Mary, a descendant of David (Luke 1:34-35; 3:23-381

This presents the truth of His incarnation – God became Man to save us. Christ means the anointed one, Jesus means Saviour, for He shall save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). Are you saved? Jesus Christ is the Saviour – receive Him today! The passage drew the attention of the Pharisees to the first and greatest commandment which is love. And if you see Jesus as Saviour, then you must love God and your neighbour. Do you express this love?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, save me today, and help me to express Your love.
