TOPIC – Knowing And Experiencing God

READ: JOHN 14:8-17

8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.

11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you [a]ask anything in My name, I will do it.

15 “If you love Me, [b]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [c]Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

THE MESSAGE:

Philip asks Jesus to show them the Father, and Jesus responds by explaining that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father. Jesus addresses Philip’s desire to “see the Father,” by offering deep insights into the nature of knowing and experiencing God. He reveals how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, interconnect in the Trinity, and how we can know and experience God. Jesus reveals that He is the embodiment of the Father, stating, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” This emphasises that true knowledge of God is found in encountering Jesus Christ. Jesus further emphasises His unity with the Father and promises that those who believe in Him will do even greater works.

Furthermore, Jesus promises the gift of the Holy Spirit, who would indwell believers and guide them into all truth. The Holy Spirit is a constant companion, enabling us to experience God’s presence in our lives. Our text today invites us to deepen our understanding of the Trinity and to cultivate a personal relationship with God through Jesus, to study His life and teachings, and to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into a more intimate understanding of God’s love and grace. As we cultivate a closer relationship with Christ, we will increasingly come to know the Father and experience His love and presence in our lives.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to know You more deeply and to experience Your presence in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
