TOPIC: Judgement

READ: Matthew 11:20-24 (NKJV)

  1. Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent:
  2. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
  3. “But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
  4. “And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
  5. “But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

THE MESSAGE:

In our passage today, Jesus reproached cities like Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum for their lack of repentance after having experienced His presence and mighty works among them. The degree of the judgment of Capernaum is to be even greater than the judgment of Sodom. Why? Because it was the very city of the Lord’s ministry and the people still neglected and rejected Christ. God demands repentance. A person who continues to live as he wills and refuses to turn to God, condemns himself. God’s judgement awaits all who refuse to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Those who continue to live unholy lives after the experience of salvation will also face the judgement of God (Romans 8:1).

God has given us countless opportunities to live, hear His word, experience His mercies, provision and deliverance and we should not take these for granted. We must use every of God’s provision for us for the service of Christ and the expansion of His kingdom on earth. Failure to do this will attract severe judgment when the books of records will be opened. As Revelation 20:12-13 states: “I saw the dead, great and small stand before the throne and books were opened. All were judged in accordance with what they have done as recorded in the books.”

PRAYER: Pray that God will forgive you for the opportunities you had to preach Christ which you missed.
