TOPIC: Transformative Power Of Obedience
READ: Haggai 1:12-15 (NKJV)
- Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared the presence of the LORD.
- Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying, “I [am] with you, says the LORD.”
- So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
- on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius.
THE MESSAGE:
Today’s text opens with a turning point in the life of the people when they obeyed the voice of the Lord their God (verse 12). The people having heard God’s word through the prophet, shifted their focus and took action. This highlights the importance of not only listening but also acting on what we hear. God’s response to their obedience is powerful: “I am with you, declares the Lord” (verse 13). This simple statement is a powerful reminder that when we choose to obey, what comes next is God’s presence and encouragement. The passage then describes the positive outcomes of their obedience: Their hearts were motivated to act and continue on the path of obedience with a deeper reverence for God. When we hear God’s voice, let us not remain stagnant.
Beloved, take the first step, no matter how small, towards fulfilling what you believe God is asking of you. Trust that as you move forward, He will be your guide and companion.
Remember, faith without action is like a seed planted but never watered. Let us be the fertile ground where the seeds of God’s word can blossom into meaningful action. Let us move from hearing to doing, trusting that God’s presence will be with us every step of the way. Small steps of obedience can lead to significant changes in your life and strengthen your relationship with God. Trust that He is with you, and take the first step towards living according to His will today.
ACTION: Reflect, refocus and realign your actions on building a lasting relationship with God
