TOPIC: Appreciating And Understanding Your Responsibility
READ: 1 Kings 3:6-9 (KJV)
6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
THE MESSAGE:
In life, many people misunderstand their responsibilities or tasks, and as such, fail to acquire relevant skills to help them execute such assignments. For us not to handle our life’s assignment with lack of seriousness, it is important that we understand our roles in God’s design. Solomon considered his office a privilege from God and saw it as a great kindness shown his father. He didn’t consider it a right or what he deserved. This was why he prayed to God, “Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child” (v. 7). He also said that he did not know what to do; and on account of that, he sought the face of God. Solomon made this prayer when he realised that he was set over God’s chosen people; a great people that could not be numbered or counted for multitude.
We cannot afford to take lightly our responsibilities in life, particularly divine assignments and those relating to leadership. We need to see divine tasks with the eyes of the Lord; and that they demand our soul, our life and our all. This understanding will help us to treat men (even those we lead) with honour, and in the spirit of meekness. There is no assignment from the Lord that we can do on our own. We must draw grace and grace from Him. Anything short of this is a complete misunderstanding of that which we are called to do.
PRAYER:
Lord, grant me understanding of my life’s responsibility and give me all it takes to succeed.
