Bishop David O. Oyedepo: Benefits of divine guidance!

From scriptures, we understand that divine guidance is one of the greatest assets in the Kingdom because it is the highway to our greatness.  This implies that when we allow God to lead us in our endeavours, the future is secured and great. However, while one right step can lead to eternal pleasure and treasure, one wrong step in life can lead to a major crash of destiny; that is why the Bible says: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). Thus, to avoid taking wrong steps that will crash our destinies, it is therefore of utmost importance to seek divine guidance so that we can be partakers of the benefits therein.

What are some of the benefits of divine guidance?

It facilitates Divine Presence: We must understand that divine presence makes all the difference for those who are led by God. As it is written: And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17- 20; see also John 14:10).

The most restful believers are those who follow divine guidance because God’s leadings guarantee His presence, which gives us all-round rest and makes us undefeatable. When God led the Israelites out of Egypt, He went with them and the Bible records: The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters   (Psalm 114:3-8). They went out of Egypt carrying divine presence and all obstacles were destroyed!

Also, the presence of God guarantees all-round rest.  Every beneficiary of divine guidance is confidently restful. Moreover, God takes extra step to dispatch angels to protect us when we follow His divine guidance. Please understand that no force in hell can stop a man who has discovered the plan of God for his life and is pursuing it, as angelic forces are on hand to fight on his behalf cutting off any adversary that dares to come near. As it is written: Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared (Exodus 23:20). Also, we must understand that every time we are off divine guidance, our spirit-man is tensed up but divine presence grants us peace that passes all understanding. For instance, when Paul was out of God’s will, his spirit-man was tensed up. This helps us to recognise that there is no greater asset in a believer’s life than divine presence, which grants dominion over life’s situations and circumstances (Exodus 33:14-15; Psalms 114:3; John 8:29; Acts 20:22; Romans 8:31).

He Backs You Up: God is behind the execution of every divine plan. Once we locate His plan for our lives and are following it, God stands strong and faithful, to accomplish it. As it is written: Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24). That is why to wander out of the course He has charted for us is to live a miserable life.

It Guarantees Supernatural Breakthroughs: When God leads, He grants supernatural breakthroughs to the led. When Jonah went back on course with divine plan, he encountered supernatural breakthroughs in ministry. As a result, there was an outbreak of the greatest revival recorded in scriptures, which involved humans and animals (Jonah 3:1-10). Furthermore, supernatural breakthroughs always answer to divine guidance because when God leads, our enemies are silenced, we become unstoppable and impossible doors open (Psalm 23:1, 5; Isaiah 45:1-3).
Let’s recognise that divine guidance is the secret of the strength of God’s people and access to it will keep adding colour to our destinies. This is because when God guides, He envelopes the guided; he/she is human in appearance but divine in capacity. For instance, when Paul got to the place he was sent, he became a god in the likeness of men (Genesis 1:22-27; Deuteronomy 32:9-13; John 14:9; Acts 14:11).

We must understand that God does not lead us into shame and reproach but to glory and virtue. As a result, we cannot be guided and be grounded at the same time, because God’s leading changes people’s level supernaturally and makes all things work. We must, therefore, set ourselves to access divine directives like never before and tune our lives to the correct spiritual frequency, so we can hear what God is saying clearly concerning our lives.

However, the grace to benefit from divine guidance is available if you are born-again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”  For further reading, please get my books: Understanding Vision, Understanding Divine Direction and In Pursuit of Vision.
