Bishop David Oyedepo: Is there no balm in Gilead?

Topic: Is there no balm in Gilead?

Without any doubt, health stands out as the greatest asset of life. When a man’s health is challenged, everything he has loses value. That is why the world says, ‘Health is wealth.’ In the world today, healthcare is one of the most costly services; that is why God is visiting us with free health and cure this month.  As it is written: Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first (Jeremiah 33:6-7).

Let us recognise that God does not want us to be only spiritually robust; but also physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally healthy (3 John 1:2).When we are hurt, God is hurt (Jeremiah 8:21-22); because He had already fully paid the price for our total health (Isaiah 53: 4-5). Remember, we have been bought with a price; therefore, we must glorify God in our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:20). As a matter of fact, we don’t pay for any product twice. Our bodies have been redeemed from the corruption of sickness and disease; therefore, we are now redeemed to glorify God, not the devil.

Who is this Great Physician?

God introduced Himself as the Physician in prophecy in Jeremiah 8:19-22: But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, they that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick… (Matthew 9:12). His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Whatever He cannot do, cannot be, whatever He cannot handle cannot exist; He is the ultimate reference on all health issues. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.   On the Cross, Jesus carried the burden of every sickness and disease that has tormented us.  This implies that, He paid the ultimate price to credit total health into our account. We are told that He received 39 wicked Roman stripes as a result of being beaten with whips that had iron thorns attached to them. As they whipped Him and pulled it, it drew flesh from His Body and His Blood gushed out. Jesus painfully received 39 of them, for every form of classified sickness and disease that the world will ever know (1 Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:4-5).

In the light of the above, an end came to all our sicknesses and diseases. For surely He had borne our sicknesses and carried our pains; therefore, every pain and sickness has become illegal (Isaiah 53:4-5). The end came to every torment, when Jesus rose from the dead; the deal was sealed and we are now free (1 Peter 2:24).

Every health issue was fully settled before it began to rear its ugly head. Every sickness and disease bows to His authority (Philippians 2:9-11). This is what qualified Him as ‘The Great Physician.’

What is His Great Prescription?

One of the principal prescriptions of the Great Physician is the Anointing Oil. We recognize that the Anointing Oil is one of the vital balms in Gilead for the total restoration of the health of God’s people. This is why Jesus gave the Anointing Oil to His disciples when He sent them forth. As it is written……he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;… and they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them (Mark 6:7-13).

This implies that the Anointing Oil is the power of God in the mystery that establishes our protection, sound health, and deliverance from the torments of the wicked one. Remember also that the Anointing oil is a trans-generational mystery. As it is written: And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations (Exodus 30:31).

Moreover, inside the Oil dwells the mysterious presence of the Holy Ghost. John the Baptist by the Spirit of the Lord presented the Holy Ghost as a personality with a fan and fire in His hand and on a mission to thoroughly purge His floor. That is, to preserve the organs of our bodies, gather together the chaff, and consume them with His unquenchable fire (Matthew 3:11-13; 1 Corinthians 6:19).

Interestingly, every healing recorded in Scripture answered to faith. For instance, we understand from scriptures that even though Jesus gave His disciples the Anointing Oil, The disciples in turn used it by faith and got result. Perhaps, if they didn’t use it, it wouldn’t have worked for them.

Furthermore, when the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment in faith, virtue flowed through Him and she was made whole instantly. (Matthew 9:29; Luke 8:40-46). Also, when Martha told Jesus that Lazarus was dead for four days and already stinking, He replied: …Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? (John 11:39-40).

Thereafter, Jesus called forth Lazarus and he that was dead came out of the grave alive. That shows faith as the principal force that brought Lazarus back to life.

We must recognise that faith is not a risk; unbelief is the real risk because unbelief disconnects us from help from above.

Moreover, faith comes by hearing and understanding the Word (Romans 10:17). This is why every healing answers to supernatural insight from the Word. Nevertheless, according to scriptures, healing, health and wholeness are exclusively reserved for the redeemed. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”
