Topic: Building Your Home with the Word of God

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to another exciting edition of this column.  It will speak for you and your family in Jesus’ name.

The Word of God is the basic raw material required for the building of your home. Just like a builder puts block upon block, you put in line God’s Word in building your home. There is an adage in Yoruba that says, “If you don’t pour water in front, you won’t tread on soft ground.”  If you fill the water pots with water, you will have sweeter wine every day. It’s time to follow fully the Word of God in your home.

Marriage is an institution established by God and must be sustained by His Word.  This is why the next four months, we shall be looking at the topic, Building Your Home With The Word of God.

Any marriage that is founded on the Word of God enjoys sweatless triumph in the battles of life.  Satan is rendered powerless, when a couple stands firmly on the Word of God and operates by its principles. This month, we will be looking at Obeying the Word of God for marital Success.

God’s plan for marriage as an institution and the family is clearly stated in His Word.  This plan has to be discovered, understood and applied, before the success inherent in it can be enjoyed. The Word of God says: …Upholding all things by the word of his power (Hebrews 1:3).

Except you allow the Word of God to have the final say, there is no way you can enjoy success in the family. There is no short-cut to success in the family. In this day and age, where both husbands and wives are busy making money, many of them forget the place of the Word in the home. Neglecting the Word of God, is giving the devil a foothold in your home; so don’t!

For anyone desiring success in the home, the Bible, which is God’s Word, must be accepted as the standard by all the members of the family. It is God Who instituted marriage and family life. The Word of God must be read, taught and obeyed. For instance, the Word of God says: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24).

A discovery, understanding and application of the principles of the Word of God will make family success a reality.  But anyone who does not obey the principles of the Word of God, as regards marriage, should not expect to have a fulfilled home and marriage.

Man’s hardness of heart towards God’s instruction, has been a major reason for marital and family failure the world over. God’s design for marriage and family life in the beginning was set towards fruitfulness and multiplication; it wasn’t designed or billed for failure, heartaches or sorrow.

Even now, you don’t have to suffer family failure. In fact, you can experience a great family life, if you open up to God’s Word. The reason for divorce situation is hardness of heart. My husband says, “You need a heart to make a mark” and if I may add, “You need a right heart to make a right mark in your family life.”

The Lord Jesus said: …Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives… (Matthew 19:8).  Divorce and family failure were results of a hardened heart. When God’s Word is sounding, some are careless hearers, while others have the Word stolen from them by listening to negative sources. But there are those who put to good use what they hear. These are the ones who eventually enjoy a peaceful family. You shall not fail in Jesus’ name.

If you are not born again, you are not entitled to the peaceful married life that God has reserved for His children. However, God’s grace of salvation is extending to you right now. You become born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you desire to be born again, say this simple prayer in faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today as a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
