TOPIC: How To Experience The Outpouring Of The Latter Rain

Bible Text: “Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone. – Zechariah 10:1

Today’s text offers us some useful insights on how to experience the outpouring of the latter rain. Rain won’t just fall, its outpouring is based on certain conditions. This would mean that anyone who desires to experience the latter rain must necessarily fulfill those conditions. We shall identify three conditions from today’s text.

The first condition is to ask. Someone once said ‘asking is receiving’. This is corroborated by Matthew 7:7-8 where Jesus said “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” According to this text, asking positions a man to receive whatever he wants from God. The simple insight here is that if you want to experience the outpouring of the latter rain, ask for it.

The second condition is to ask from the Lord and not from any other source. Today’s text directly reveals to us that God is the source of the latter rain. He is the one from whom all genuine and lasting blessings flow. According to the text, He is the one that gives showers of rain. Fake sources will only produce fake blessings. We read from Matthew 7:9-10 that God is our Father, when we ask for bread, He will not give us a stone and when we ask for fish, He will not give us a snake. Therefore, approaching alternative sources for help is a mere waste of time. If you need the outpouring of the latter rain, ask of the Lord.

Christmas is around the corner. Don’t fall into the temptation of asking people saying, “where is my Christmas gift? Won’t you give me a Christmas gift?. Whatever you need, turn to God, He will send people to meet that need. If your company or wherever you work doesn’t consider you for a Christmas bonus or Christmas gift, turn to God. Your bonus and gifts are with Him. Shift your attention from stingy and selfish employers and turn to your kind and generous Heavenly Father, He will rain His blessings on you much more abundantly than any man or any employer can do.

Finally, if you desire the outpouring of the latter rain, you need to ask on time. Timing is important because according to Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”. Today’s text emphasizes the fact that if you need the latter rain ask in the time of the latter rain. Don’t ask before or after, it must be at the right time. No delay and no procrastination.

Beloved of God, it’s another season of the latter rain. Act upon the Word of the Lord right now. Don’t wait till the distant future. Your miracle is now.
