A Promise For You From Bible Promises:

Topic: Pay Your Vow unto God Pt One

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, Genesis 28:20. Read: Gen 28:19-21

A vow is a serious promise made to do something or to behave in a certain way. A vow place one under oath to do or not to do something no matter the circumstances at hand. A vow compel one to do a particular thing whether convenient or not. It’s more or less making a covenant with a seal, and every covenant breaker must pay. A vow is not to be betrayed but to be fulfilled. A vow is not to be made presumptuously, one must be ready to prove it right and able to stay put to the promise irrespective of circumstances. Jacob vowed a vow unto God to return to where He appeared to him, but almost forgot God when things were going well with him, until he ran into problem with his father in law. Again, God appeared unto him to return to Bethel, Jacob returned and built an Altar unto God in fulfilment to his vow.

Before you make a vow unto God or man, you must count the cause and consequences. A vow is not ‘yes no stuff’, you must be committed to its fulfilment. As he was about going into a battle with Ammon, Jephthah made a vow unto God saying, if God would grant him victory, whatever comes out of my door will I offer unto You. At his return, his only daughter came out first, he had to fulfilled his vow to God by offering her. Judges 11:30-39

* Don’t ensnare yourself, pay your vow.
