Topic: The Messiah is Here [DCLM Daily Manna 14 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 9:1-7 (KJV)

Key Verse: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

MESSAGE:

In a time of national distress and affliction, people usually look up for a saviour that would deliever and set them free from bondage and oppression. They may even seek for a revolution that would change political leadership so that tyrants and wicked rulers would be eased out of office. Similarly, in time of sorrow and despair, we should not fear but take comfort in the promise of God.

Our reading today contains the prophecy of Isaiah about a coming Deliverer, who shall lead God’s people into a life of joy, peace and a right relationship with God. This was at a time when Zebulun and Naptali, two northern tribes of Israel were hit hard by Assyrian invasion. The invaders devastated the land and brought untold suffering on the people. There was a real need for a messiah to remedy the situation. Isaiah’s prophecy therefore described the character of the expected Messiah. The prophecy maintained that in the darkness of Israel’s distress and affliction, the Child being born shall be a great light to the people. And of His kingdom, there shall be no end. It is eternal.

The world today is in darkness of sin and ungodliness. God has sent His Son Jesus Christ as the Saviour. He is the Child that was born and the Son that was given. He is the Light of the world and anyone who fails to accept His Lordship is in darkness and has deliberately spurned the love of God. Such individuals are still in darkness. That is not the desire and plan of God who desires all men to be saved and reflect His light in their lives.

Thought For The Day: Light repels darkness everytime and everywhere.
