Topic: Sanctify Yourself [Friday September 4, 2015]

Text: Leviticus 11:24-40

Key Verse: “And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even” (Leviticus 11:40).

The entire nature of man is corrupt because it has been affected by sin. His depravity and sinfulness render him subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

Repentance, cleansing and holiness of life qualify a fallen man to stay clean and have regular fellowship with God. Today’s passage outlines instructions on clean and unclean things. Touching unclean creatures and their carcass will render a person unclean. God’s word makes it clear that detestable things render an individual unclean and defiled before God.

“…Ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy” (verse 44). When God gave commandments to Israel, there were reasons behind them. He didn’t need to always tell them why a particular thing was clean or unclean.

Whenever any pronouncement is made by Him, it becomes a command. Obedience to that instruction or command is proof of our holy lifestyle. God does not arbitrarily give laws to cage His people, but to prove their obedience. The consequences of violating His commandment by far outweigh the pleasure derived from disobeying them. Israel had two options of being separate and holy unto God or compromise and be defiled. Every believer, like the Israelites, should remain holy unto God and avoid things that are questionable and defiling.

Holiness of life is the standard of living that guarantees heaven and acceptable worship of God. The sum and substance of today’s message therefore, is The Bible IN ONE YEAR “be ye holy for I am holy”.

Thought for the day: Avoid every ungodly thing and be holy unto God.
