Topic: Wickedness Forbidden [July 12, 2016]

Text: Obadiah 10-21

Key Verse: “For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever” (Obadiah 10).

Oppression and ill-treatment of people are like arrows in God’s heart. The Almighty abhors repressive treatment of people by the wicked. He dispenses judgment against the oppressor. His righteous judgment runs from generation to generation. Those who delight in wickedness always reap the anger of God.

Obadiah lists the sins of the Edomites against the Israelites their brethren. They aided the Babylonians as they plundered the city and put Israel in distress. They also collaborated in making sure that the escaping Israelites were taken into captivity by the Babylonians. But, there was a day of reckoning. The Judgment of God would come upon Edom in a fierce manner. They would be devoured by the nations of the world to the point that it would be as if they never existed as a nation. Believers must put their absolute trust in the living God.

Though they may be going trough oppression by the enemies of God, engineered by the devil, a day of deliverance will come. And God will rain vengeance upon the wicked of the world. Those who have yielded themselves as instruments of oppression in the hand of the devil will soon receive the recompense of their wicked deeds. They will be wiped off the face of the earth and their memories shall perish.

Thought for the day: Though hands join in hands, the wicked shall not go unpunished.
