Text: Hebrews 13:8-15
Key Verse: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8).
Various political parties across the globe promise change if voted into power. A newly-recruited company executive officer also gives the assurance that he/she is going to effect changes. Even in religious circles, people talk about change and some of these changes are known to have compromised standards and negatively altered spiritual values.
The drive for “change” is always on the upswing because the world system is not perfect. People continue to experiment to see if there is any way things can improve in society. But the more they try, the more corruption, impunity, wickedness and lawlessness pervade the society. The passage today holds a contrary view. It shows the portrait of Jesus Christ who remains unchanged in all circumstances. He does not lower standards to accommodate those who complain of difficulty in complying with laid-down rules. He does not bow to the tempter to prove He is the Messiah. The bows, arrows and other terrifying instruments of destruction which the Jews brandished when they came to arrest him, and the ill-treatment meted out to Him on the way to Golgotha, could not make Him change His mind on who He is. In the text, Apostle Paul tells the Hebrew brethren to remain steadfast and not be tossed by every wind of doctrine.
He draws our attention to the Lord Jesus Christ who had to “suffer without the gate” in order to set a worthy example and admonishes us to do good at all times and form the habit of communicating with God always, so that we might please Him. We must resolve to maintain our faith in the face of trials. We must remain steadfast and committed to the Lord, always looking up to Him as the Author and finisher of our faith.
Thought for the day: No matter what, truth always triumphs over falsehood.
