Topic: An Angel Of God [Thursday July 23, 2015]

Text: Judges 13:15-25

Key Verse: “For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground” (Judges 13:20).

A teacher was explaining to her class the words concerning God’s angels, which she called “ministers of His who do His pleasure”. She asked, “How do angels carry out God’s will?” Many answers followed. One said, “They do it directly”. Another said, “They do it with all their hearts”. A third said, “They do it well”. And after a pause, a little girl added, “They do it without asking any questions”.

The angel of the LORD came with the good news of the conception of Samson to the mother who had been barren for many years. He was recalled by the prayer of Manoah to reiterate his earlier prophecy. As the angel was about to take his leave after confirming His earlier prophecy, Manoah and his wife detained him so as to prepare some refreshments for him. He declined the meal, and counselled them to offer their sacrifice unto the LORD.

From the foundation of the world, angels have been God’s ministering spirits. They do His bidding, will and pleasure. They do it directly. They do it with all their hearts. They do it well. And they do it without asking questions. In the Old and New Testaments, they ministered to the needs of saints, fought the enemies of the children of God, and made sure that the will of God was done at all times.

Our Lord Jesus Christ called the pastors of the seven churches in Asia-minor angels of the church. This means that all leaders at all levels in the church are the angels of the church. The expectations of God concerning His angels today have not changed. They are “ministers of His who do His pleasure”. Do you see yourself as an angel of God? Do you do His pleasure or yours? As a priest and king to the Lord, nay, as an angel of God, you need to serve the Lord unconditionally from this day henceforth.
