Topic: Your Life As A Magnet [Thursday June 11, 2015]

Text: Isaiah 18:1, 5-7

Key Verse: “In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion” (Isaiah 18:7).

Lying south of Egypt, Ethiopia, at the time of this message from God to Isaiah, was a very powerful nation. Its king was an equally potent monarch who ruled all of Egypt with considerable authority. History says his control stretched over a wide expanse that included territories north of Egypt.

But despite this power and control, a time came when Ethiopia sought Israel’s help in a confederacy to check Assyria, a war-loving nation. To contain Assyria, Ethiopia was said to have sent messengers to Israel asking for an alliance. The king of Ethiopia thought that with Israel, a nation guided by God and His prophets on his side, his force would make easy conquest of the fierce Assyrians.

Now the God of Israel intervened by sending His word to prophet Isaiah. God says He Himself would defeat the Assyrian enemy in His own time. “They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.” God determined when He would effect the victory because He says in verse 4, “I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place…”

If we trust in God, His power and presence will be so evident in our lives that the weak and oppressed sinner will be drawn to us, asking for our help on how he can be saved. In the process, God will be exalted and glorified as the Source of our strength. The despairing world will come to know Jesus Christ as the Saviour through us. They will flee from sin and Satan their oppressor and run to Jesus the Son of God Who possesses all power in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18).
