Topic: Seeking Christ Diligently [Tuesday April 14, 2015]

Text: 1 Kings 10:1-13

Key Verse: “Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard” (1 Kings 10:7).

Addison Adamu grew up in a strict Muslim family in Ghana. Getting converted to Christianity was like the highest degree of crime. But one day, a friend of his invited him to a Christian healing service and, Adamu, out of curiosity, gave it a serious thought. “I was very curious to go,” he recalled.

“Those who came with their crutches started abandoning them and were screaming and shouting, ‘I am healed! I am healed!’ That shook my idea about Jesus Christ that He’s just one of the prophets. That day, I accepted Him as my Lord and my personal Saviour.”

The inquisitiveness and unrelenting effort, which the Queen of Sheba exhibited while seeking Solomon’s fame and how he gave honour to the Lord, as our text discloses, should form the fulcrum of the genuine Christian’s love for Christ. The stories she heard about Solomon’s wisdom and wealth, to her, were not enough. So, she sought a firsthand experience. She travelled a very long distance, notwithstanding the stress and discomfort on the way, to visit Solomon. Eventually, she found out the truth and praised God, who made Solomon king.

On arrival, she presented her gifts to Solomon, who equally gave her great presents. You need to hand your sins of hatred, wickedness, lies, backbiting, gossips, fornication, adultery, and idolatry to the Lord and obtain His gift of forgiveness.

What efforts are you making to fully consecrate, know and serve the Lord better than ever? Has little discomforts lessened your love for God? Christ acknowledges such sacrificial efforts with reference to the Queen of Sheba. “The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.” No sacrifice is too much in seeking and receiving the fullness of Christ.
