Topic: God Can Use You [Tuesday June 2, 2015]
Text: Exodus 4:1-7
Key Verse: “And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod” (Exodus 4:1,2).
We often under-estimate the extent God can go to get the best out of us. We may make excuses for our assumed or obvious inadequacies. Or we may plead for more time to brush up ourselves, so as to become suitable for God’s use in achieving His plans. We momentarily forget the Scripture that says: “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty… That no flesh should glory in his presence” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29).
Moses was like many of us. His major concern when God called him was the reaction he would get from the Israelites. He thought they would neither believe nor accept his authority. To convince him that he was mistaken, God asked what he had in his hand. He responded that it was a mere shepherd’s staff. God then commanded him to throw it to the ground. He did, and the stick turned to a snake, which when he took by the tail, became a stick again. But God knew that Moses needed further proof. So, He asked him to put his hands under his bosom. He did, and his hand turned leprous. When he repeated the exercise, his hand became normal again. The Lord said that when the Israelites see these signs, they would believe that the God of their fathers had appeared to Moses.
We must never panic over what may go wrong in the task God has given to us. Instead, we must recognize that He does not always call us to the places where the means for success exist, but where we would trust Him to pave the way for us. God does not require special abilities but our willingness and commitment to serve Him. Our inconsequential talents, when put at His disposal, can be used to achieve extraordinary results.
