Topic: Dare To Be Exceptional [Wednesday November 4, 2015]

Text: Numbers 14:11-25

Key Verse: “But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it” (Numbers 14:24).

Not too long ago, a department in a university recorded a massive failure of its students. Out of over 20 undergraduates that sat for a course, only one made an ‘A’ grade. Majority failed while only a few had a ‘pass grade’. When the outstanding student was asked the secret of his exceptional performance, the young lad said: ‘I did not underestimate the course. Everybody knew it was a tough one; so while most of my colleagues refuse to try at all, a few put in a wishy-washy effort. I gave it all my attention and determined to conquer it; and thank God I did.’

The children of Israel never ceased to offend God. The evil report brought by the spies broke the people’s heart. While they were lamenting over the report, Caleb said they were able to go up against the country despite the seeming impediments on their way. And for his positive attitude towards the challenge, God singled him out for a special blessing. In like manner, believers should learn to be positive in their utterances. They must see success where others see failure.

Apostle Paul charged us that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Our ability to confront difficult situations lies in our confession, because “as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”. Successful people are made by their dogged determination; they see possibilities where others see brick walls. Evidently, people who have the “can do” spirit have always excelled. We must be exceptional in whatever we do, so that there would be a positive difference between us and unbelievers.

Thought for the day: Your attitude determines your altitude.
