Be Disciplined by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Be Disciplined

No matter how gifted a person is, without the application of self-discipline, the gift will never take that person to his or her maximum potential. Do you want to conquer the world? Then, you have to conquer yourself first.

Titus 2:6 (KJV) Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

Conquer yourself before thinking of conquering the world. David, for instance, was able to conquer Goliath (1 Samuel 17), but he was not able to conquer himself. Adultery got the better of him! If you first conquer the world without conquering yourself, you will still fail — it is only a question of time. Jesus conquered Himself before He conquered the world. That’s why He could boldly say, “the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” John 14:30.

You can conquer the world and still be a problem. You must conquer yourself! Many dodge opportunities to improve themselves and wonder why they are failures. If you are a quitter, you will end up failing! You refused to conquer yourself, so you have no self-discipline — a necessary requirement for success. Success is not a function of prayers; it is a function of self-discipline. Yes, God has given you fantastic ideas but those ideas will never be actualized without self-discipline.

Proverbs 11:3 (KJV) The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

Character is what you are in the dark. What you are when no one is monitoring or supervising you. Being able to still do the right thing when nobody is keeping a tab on you, when no one is telling you what to do and what not to do.

Luke 14:18 (KJV) And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

To discipline yourself, you must challenge excuses. To develop a life-style of self-discipline, the place to begin is to challenge and eliminate all tendencies to make excuses.

Proverbs 18:9 (KJV) He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

Undisciplined people are always procrastinating. Self-discipline does not make room for procrastination. So determine to stop procrastinating. Stop giving excuses. Be disciplined!

Another way to attain self-discipline is to stay focused on results. Anytime you concentrate on the difficulties of an assignment, instead of its results, you are likely to be discouraged. So every time you have an assignment or a task to accomplish, do not look at the difficult side of it. Focus on the end result and the reward you will get out of it.

Another way to discipline yourself is to remove the reward until the job is done. Your primary concern should be to do a quality job, not the money; let people know you for your integrity. It is time to conquer yourself. He who conquers others is strong, but he who conquers himself is mighty.

Discipline yourself first before you discipline someone else. That’s the secret of success.

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Whatever you want to be in life, you must first discipline yourself to become. Please devote time to self-discipline in your time, your devotion to God, your health and every other area of your life.

Receive grace to be disciplined in Jesus name – Amen!

God bless you
