Topic: Extending Mercy [Open Heavens for Teens 17 May 2019]

Memorise: “And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.” – Deuteronomy 5:10

Read: Deuteronomy 5:9-10

  1. Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
  2. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 18-19, John 6:22-44

MESSAGE:

Our memory verse for today implies that if you love God, His mercy on your life can cover thousands of people who are linked to you one way or the other. This implies that if you truly love your family, you will love the Lord so as to provoke His mercy upon your family members. If you dabble into sin, you can bring God’s judgement upon your entire family. Gehazi’s family didn’t have leprosy till he committed sin and incurred God’s wrath in form of leprosy upon them.

In the same vein, you can do all you can to bring God’s mercy upon yourself and your family. Esther, was wise and godly, she knew that trouble was going to befall her people if she didn’t take action quickly. She mapped out a plan and went through with it even though she knew she might lose her life. Her actions eventually saved her people and her beloved uncle. Before you take any action, stop to think; will your action extend God’s mercy to your family members or will it incur His wrath? Be careful.

Prayer Point: Lord, please let your mercy speak for me and mine always in Jesus’ name.

Hymn 13:

1 Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is the love of God flowing through you?
Are you telling the lost of the Savior?
Are you ready His service to do?

Chorus:
Make me a channel of blessing today,
Make me a channel of blessing, I pray;
My life possessing, my service blessing,
Make me a channel of blessing today.

2 Is your life a channel of blessing?
Are you burdened for those that are lost?
Have you urged upon those who are straying
The Savior who does on the cross

3 Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is it a daily telling for Him?
Have you spoken the word of salvation?
To those who are dying in sin?

4 We cannot be channels of blessing
If our lives are not free from sin;
We will barriers be and a hindrance
To those we are trying to win.
