The United States Government is set to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari’s proposed letter to declare the past political leaders under former President Goodluck Jonathan wanted over allegations of misappropriation of funds, Newswatch Times learnt yesterday.

Those to be declared wanted, according to the reports published in national dailies are top government officials.

Investigation conducted by Newswatch Times revealed that former Vice President Namadi Sambo and former Minister of Niger Delta Ministry, Kingsley Kuku, and Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, are currently in United States. However, it could not be confirmed whether they are also being sought for.

A top official of the United States who confided in Newswatch Times in Washington, DC, said the country would commence work to repatriate those affected as soon as they receive a letter from the Nigerian Government.

“As soon as we receive a letter from the government of Nigeria, we will dispatch our officials to go after them. President Barack Obama had promised to work closely with Nigeria to curb corruption,” he said.

When asked whether the Nigerian-US citizens among them would be affected in the extradition process, he said,” Well, I do not think the US government will want to extradite its citizens.”

Kuku had come to the United States shortly after the 2015 Presidential election for a knee surgery at St. Andrews Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama.

The operation was reported to have been done towards last year July and the former Jonathan aide is expected to have returned to Nigeria to defend series of financial allegations levelled against him.

Also, Sambo’s surgery operation is said to have been carried out in mid- August, same year with Kuku.

Efforts to speak with the two PDP leaders were not successful as they did not respond to their roamed phone numbers.
