TOPIC: Three Inputs for a Fruitful Marriage

READ: 1 Peter 3:1-7 King James Version (KJV)

1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

THE MESSAGE:

To have a fruitful marriage, there must be of necessity be inputs from three persons.

GOD – The most important input in marriage is God’s input. All other inputs derive their bearing from God. God has provided HIMSELF and HIS WORD for us in marriage: Himself as ever present Witness and HIS WORD as the operational manual in marriage.

WOMAN – In verses 1-6 of the passage, the woman will need to be subject to her OWN husband, not to her boss, friends, parents or even Pastor but her OWN husband. A woman should constantly appeal to and charm her husband with the beauty of the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God a great price.

MAN – The man is the head of the woman and must love her dearly. The woman is weaker but God has provided for the man the responsibility to deal with her with understanding. This is important in marriage because according to verse 7, his prayer may be hindered when he fails to dwell with his wife with understanding.

Brethren, to have a successful marriage, all we need to do is tap into God’s provision for marriage; as His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

PRAYER: Father, grant me a submissive heart and love for my spouse. Dear Jesus, please heal, restore and build our homes and bless our godly generation
