TOPIC: Garment Of Glory

BIBLE TEXT: Isaiah 61:9-11

9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

MEMORY VERSE: “…for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” – Isaiah 61:10b

CENTRAL TRUTH: God can cover you with the garment of glory.

INTRODUCTION: What is a garment? According to the Oxford dictionary, a garment is a piece of clothing. Another name for garment is robe. A cloth is a thing you wear to cover, protect or decorate your body. We have physical and spiritual garments. Just like the physical dress you put on to cover yourself, spiritual garments are used for spiritual coverings as well. We put on both physical and spiritual garments, however the spiritual garment can further be divided into two. There are godly garments and satanic garment.

STUDY GUIDE:

A. Types of Garments – Teenagers to give both general and spiritual meanings to these garments.

  1. Filthy garments Zechariah 3:3-4
  2. Holy garments. Exodus 28:4, 35:19
  3. Babylonish garment. Joshua 7:21
  4. Prison garments. 2 King 25:29
  5. Wedding garment Matthew 22:1
  6. White garment. Eccl.9:8
  7. Beautiful garments. Isaiah 52:1
  8. Garment of praise. Isaiah 61:3.
  9. Garment of vengeance. Isaiah 59:17
  10. Garment of salvation. Isaiah 61:10
  11. Robes of righteousness.

B. The two garments mentioned in our text are:

1. Garment of salvation: Being covering with these two garments is an indication that one is covered in glory because they are garments of glory. Salvation is our ticket to reigning with Christ who is the hope of glory. An unsaved person can never have access to the glory of God.

2. Robe or garment of Righteousness: The robe of righteousness indicates the righteousness bestowed on us through faith in the of Jesus and this is sustained through holy living.

DISCUSSION: Teenagers to do a discussion on this saying “THE WAY YOU DRESS IS THE WAY YOU ARE ADDRESSED”

INVITATION/APPLICATION: What type of garment are you covered with? Can you present yourself to God with that robe you have?

CONCLUSION: As we all know, there are special garments that we wear for special occasions. God has invited us to the marriage supper of the lamb and our garment for that occasion is the robe of righteousness. Everyone who wants to enter into God’s kingdom must wear this robe. You must have faith in Christ Jesus and through His grace you will be freely given.

PRAYER: Father, put on me the garment of glory.
