As tributes continue pouring in for the late football legend, Governor Yahaya Bello have joined the long list of personalities world over to express grief over the untimely death of the former Super Eagles player and coach on Wednesday.
Keshi passed on at the age of 54 due to cardiac arrest and Comrade Adeola Eseyin, a Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, Youth Empowerment and Student Affairs has in a statement, commiserated with the family of the late ‘Big Boss’ and the football family.
“The Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment, Sports and Student Affairs to the Executive Governor of Kogi State wishes to commiserate, on behalf of the Executive Governor, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello – a Sports loving Governor, the Sports loving people of Kogi State, with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Sports loving people of Nigeria over the demise of the former Captain of the Super Eagles, former Coach of the Super Eagles, a soccer legend and great soccer ambassador of the country, Stephen Chinedu Okechukwu Keshi.
“His demise came as a shock to us in the early hours of this morning and we pray for his immediate family, NFF and the country at large that the almighty God would grant everyone the needed fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.
“The Late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi paid and played his own worthy part in shaping and moulding a future for youths of this country. His Leadership prowess and capacity to bring out the best out of those around him, earned him the name “Big Boss”.
“He was a patriotic Nigerian, many times working for the success of the Super Eagles without payment. His patriotism remained unmatched among all the coaches that have etched their names in the annals of coaching in Nigeria.
“He won many laurels as an individual and for the country, winning the African cup of Nations as a player in 1994 and as a coach in 2013 for the country, a fit no one has matched in the history of soccer in Nigeria.
“On this note, we enjoined all youths across Kogi State and Nigeria at large to imbibe the spirit of patriotism Stephen Okechukwu Keshi embraced. His willingness to give his best at all times no matter the difficulty and odds should be a progressive hallmark for everyone.
“Once again, we the good people of Kogi State pray for eternal rest on his soul. We will miss your technical inputs on the growth of soccer in Nigeria,” he prayed.
The remains of former Super Eagle’s coach, Stephen Keshi, had been deposited in a mortuary in Benin, a privately-owned mortuary, Faith Mediplex is located on the Benin Airport road in the Edo capital.
